Sex work has endlessly been covered by outsiders. Now the documentary Modern Whore places an insider as the central storyteller, furthering a collaboration between Andrea Werhun and director Nicole Bazuin that started with their book of the same title. In this session, we explore the making of the film: how the film team found its unique style, navigated sensitive issues, and sought to contribute a fresh perspective on sex work. We’ll also explore the current landscape for documentary funding and distribution in Canada.
